The Kalitta Air LLC. Apprentice Program is an Airframe & Powerplant Mechanic registered apprenticeship approved by the United States Department of Labor. It is approximately 2.5 years long and leads towards USDOL journeyman certification and FAA A&P certification. All examination fees are covered by Kalitta Air.
The purpose of the Kalitta Air Apprenticeship Program is to provide Kalitta Air LLC. with a skilled work force of certificated Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) technicians through formal and practical training.
Approved by the U.S. Department of Labor, The Kalitta Air USDOL registered apprenticeship is, at minimum, 5360 hours of training (approximately 2.5 years), leading to USDOL Journeyman’s certification and testing endorsement eligibility for FAA A&P certification. The Apprentice Program curriculum uses the standards found in the FAA-S-ACS-1 Aviation Mechanic General, Airframe, and Powerplant Airman Certification standards for the written oral and practical tests. Apprentices work alongside qualified and certificated technicians at the Main Maintenance Base. As they transition through the various maintenance departments like Avionics, Hangar Maintenance, Composites Shop, Structures Maintenance, Engine Shop and Line Maintenance, they will document the practical training received in each of these areas. Apprentice Production Supervisors and Leads oversee and track apprentice training progress and help with scheduling different tasks. Apprentices advance through to different maintenance departments as they progress through the required training in each area.
